Emily Mason, a junior in Gamma Zeta, recently attended UIFI! Here's a little more about what it is and what she took from it!
From
May 11th until May 15th I attended the Undergraduate
Interfraternity Institute (UIFI) at Indiana University in Bloomington,
Indiana. UIFI is a values based
conference for members of the Greek community. I was able to meet Greeks from
all across the United States, as well as a few from Canada. Throughout my five-day experience I learned
about how to make Delta Gamma a more value based organization. We participated
in team building activities and learned the importance of communication for
success. There were different sessions throughout the conference that focused
on everything from how to be a leader to why each chapter’s ritual is
important. UIFI is facilitated by men
and women from across the United States who want to make Greek communities
better for everyone involved. We decided as a whole group that we wanted to
work towards changing the stereotype that comes with being a member of a Greek
community. I was inspired to make Delta Gamma better and make sure that every
member of my chapter is constantly reminded why they decided to go Greek. The
facilitators challenged our beliefs and helped us gain confidence in our
leadership abilities. UIFI has given me confidence and insight that I don’t
think I would’ve been able to find anywhere else. I became very close with the
people I met and because of UIFI I now have friends all over the country. UIFI
has shown me that I need to stand up for what I believe in and that I can make
a difference in my chapter as well as the Greek community. I’ve always been
proud to say that I’m a Delta Gamma but after attending UIFI I’m incredibly
proud to just be a Greek woman.
